jaunt records is the new project from the team behind the jaunt parties. for their first release, they call on two of their residents, blackhall and bookless, who bring the heat in their own inimitable way. the se7en ep is a release thats every bit as refined as youd hope for, while the remixes - from none other than fred p aka black jazz consortium and ostgut tons always reliable virginia - both neatly compliment the merits of the originals.

the last few years have seen chicago footwork rise to international success, and traxmans debut album - *the mind of traxman* on planet mu - played no small part in that. it showcased cornelius fergusons brilliant ability to synthesise the beat digging of classic hip hop with the high-speed abstraction of footworks house-derived beat science. the selection of tracks on this second chapter show a slightly different take on traxman s abilities. instead of bringing in concepts from other genres, he simply creates a wider variety of footwork, made with a minimal, reduced palette. often just one or two samples are selected and diced into brain-blurring cubist puzzles that bear little relation to their original sources, or anything else for that matter.

a lush 90s vibe haunts this first offering by new parisian talent voiron, but not one of simple nostalgia - one of real class. the glittering layers, futuristic architecture and spaceship motions of opener -radôme- bear the true density of some early warp and reflex classic productions. one doesnt need to go any further to feel that the sleek skyline and mental landscapes voiron draws here might be the natural extension of those started by aphex twins selected ambient works or even 808 states hacienda dance cuts.

considering the combined talents of detroit veteran terrence dixon and black jazz consortium man fred p, you d expect this split ep for finale sessions to be a lesson in warm, soul-flecked depth. pleasingly, that s exactly what it delivers. dixon excels with the sub-sporting alien futurism of -to the bridge- - the aural equivalent of staring into space while dancing to electronic jazz - and the sumptuous, minor key bliss of the casual deep house jam -starting over-. fred p, meanwhile, delivers two contrasting cuts. there s some acid-fuelled deep house futurism in the shape of -circuit-, and a chunk of bongo-laden dancefloor humidity in -the road-, whose rising strings and sweet melodies are arguably the highlight of a superb ep.

naoki entered the spm universe via earth tones 3 along with joey anderson and leonid nevermind. naokis music is understated, yet effective & there is a quiet restraint that leaves the listener wanting more.

nice price deal !!! bran van 300 is a musical circus orchestrated by james di salvio. known for there 1998 hit >drinking in la<, this unconventional collective is based out of montreal but also la, and even mexico. this is taken from their most recent album >the garden<, and features the vocals of freddie james, a child star of the disco days in montreal famous for his 1979 hit >everybody, get up & boogie<. fast forward 30 years and we have this amazing collaboration between bran van and freddie that we just had to get our hands on!
